Monarch Butterfly Chrysalis

Posted by
Bud or Dell (North Bethesda, United States) on 11 September 2019 in Animal & Insect.

This is our first Monarch Chrysalis in the back yard. We have been growing milkweed for a number of years in the hope that we could attract Monarch butterflies. We have seen a number of Monarchs this summer and finally observed a Monarch caterpillar on this recycle container about a week ago. After being a way a few days, we checked to see if there was a chrysalis and this is what we found! We were delighted!! What we can not figure out is how this caterpillar made its way from the milkweed plants to this container that is located clear across our back yard - perhaps something carried it to this area?

My wife Dell has joined me on this photoblog and will be posting some of her images.
