Monarch Butterfly Chrysalis #1 - Update

Posted by
Bud or Dell (North Bethesda, United States) on 18 September 2019 in Animal & Insect.

This is the chrysalis that was first posted on 9-11 and is beginning the final process of maturing. You can see the dark color bands on the developing wing and the overall color of the chrysalis casing has faded. The chrysalis casing will lose all color and become transparent before the butterfly emerges. I expect that will happen in the next 24 - 36 hours. Stay tuned!

Update: Very sad news again. When I checked on this chrysalis late yesterday afternoon it was gone. I expect a bird got it. We live along a stream-side park and there are many species of birds in our yard throughout the day. That includes crows - my prime suspects.

My wife Dell has joined me on this photoblog and will be posting some of her images.
